There were years of visual work before the drawings returned: photography, video, editing, fashion, campaigns, stories made for other people and other purposes.

In that industry an image often knows its job before it exists. It has to attract, persuade, create desire, make something look more beautiful, more successful, more necessary. There is intelligence in that world, but also pressure.

The surface becomes smooth. The feeling becomes directed. The space for real artistic freedom becomes smaller.

The body understood this before the mind could explain it.
Drawing returned when that space became too narrow.

How it starts

A drawing does not ask to be more fashionable, more efficient, more convincing. It can begin badly. It can begin quietly. It can begin from a sentence in a book, from the words of a master, from a quote found while searching through sages, or from nothing more than the hand moving.

The work does not need to know itself immediately.
It can become.

A fragment is cut. Another fragment is placed near it. Something moves. Something does not fit. Something suddenly does. A phrase appears as if it had been waiting inside the material.

That is part of the work: not inventing everything, but noticing what has arrived. The eyes carry the sense that the Divine observes itself through creation.

Lokanugraha Karini Dasi is the artist’s spiritual name, received on the path of Bhakti.

It is not a brand name and not a concept placed over the work.

It belongs to the ground of the practice: prayer, inner reflection, repetition, listening, offering.

The works are connected to devotion, but they are not instructions.

Observing

No belief is required.

The works do not ask the viewer to feel anything specific.

No correct feeling, no correct interpretation, no spiritual conclusion.

The viewer can simply stay with the work and see what happens.
