The work begins fast.
There is a sense of control — like knowing what to do — but in reality, something else is leading. Hands move, fragments appear, pieces connect before they are understood. Collage makes this visible: an image next to a word, a cut next to a color, and suddenly there is coherence that was never planned.
It feels precise, but not constructed.
A work is alive when it carries this internal necessity.
It is dead when it starts trying to please, explain, or resemble something already known.
The viewer is not asked to “like” the work.
Only to meet it with enough attention to see beyond the surface — to hold contradiction, to sense what is not immediately visible.
There is still tension at the beginning. A hesitation. The thought of how it will be received. This is where the work risks becoming false.
The practice is to move through that point without negotiation.
If the work disappears, what remains is the ability to recognize when something is true — and to follow it without slowing down.
